The massive Series F round was co-led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital, and Valor Equity Partners, with participation from Nvidia, Founders Fund, GIC, Qatar Investment Authority, Radical Ventures, and TPG. This capital injection pushes Crusoe's valuation to $30.9 billion, a steep rise from its $10 billion valuation just ten months ago when it raised $1.38 billion. The eight-year-old company, which began in 2018 as a crypto mining operation utilizing flared natural gas, has rapidly pivoted to become a major player in AI infrastructure, serving tech giants like Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle.

Crusoe plans to use the $3.9 billion to fund its ongoing data center projects, including a massive facility in Abilene, Texas, currently utilized by OpenAI. Additionally, the funds will accelerate the production of Spark, Crusoe's proprietary line of smaller, modular AI factories. These units can be transported by truck and connected directly to power sources. To guide this expansion, Crusoe added Cloudflare CFO Thomas Seifert, Redwood Materials CEO JB Straubel, and Primary Digital Infrastructure partner Bill Stein to its board.

For AI practitioners and enterprise developers, Crusoe's expansion offers a more flexible path to securing scarce compute resources. The company operates on a three-pronged model: leasing physical data center space to clients with their own hardware, renting out its own GPUs, and selling compute power for model inference. This setup recently secured Crusoe a five-year, $13 billion cloud contract with quantitative trading firm Jane Street. By manufacturing the modular Spark units in-house, Crusoe can bypass the lengthy construction timelines and local community pushback that typically delay traditional data center builds, delivering GPU capacity to developers much faster.

With its rapid valuation growth and massive capital reserves, Crusoe is also eyeing the public markets. The company recently held discussions with investment bankers from Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley regarding a potential initial public offering in the near future. According to co-founder and CEO Chase Lochmiller, the company's ultimate goal is "controlling the infrastructure from electrons to tokens" to power the next generation of artificial intelligence.
